HTS code

Harmonized Tariff Schedule code

The tariff classification number for an imported product, used to work out the customs duty owed. The rate also depends on the country of origin and any trade programs.

Why it matters for a product launch

Duty rates change, so check the official Harmonized Tariff Schedule and U.S. Customs and Border Protection for current rates, and ask a licensed customs broker about classification.
