Websites for local government and schools

Design and development of a fully functional website for your organization, built to WCAG 2.1 AA and delivered live with a user guide and a maintenance plan.

Request to be considered

Every request is reviewed personally.

The problem

The deadline applies to your entity, whoever builds the site.

The Department of Justice's ADA Title II web rule applies to the web content of state and local governments, including public schools.

  • Your entity stays responsible for web content that a vendor builds or posts for you.
  • Agendas, minutes, calendars, forms and newsletters posted after your deadline are covered, with narrow exceptions.
  • You may not know where your site stands today, or which deadline is yours.

The rule

The ADA Title II web rule, in plain terms

It covers the web content and mobile apps of state and local governments, including special district governments and public schools.

  • The standard

    WCAG 2.1, Level AA.

  • Population of 50,000 or more

    April 26, 2027.

  • Population under 50,000, and all special district governments

April 26, 2028. Population is counted from U.S. Census data. An independent school district's population is its figure in the Census Bureau's 2022 Small Area Income and Poverty Estimates; ada.gov explains how to find it.

  • Who is responsible

Your entity, including for content a contractor provides or posts on your behalf.

  • Documents and older content

Content and documents posted after your deadline are covered. The rule has narrow exceptions, for example for archived content and some documents posted before the deadline. Read them on ada.gov.

  • Private and charter schools

Whether the rule applies depends on your school's legal status. Ask your attorney.

How it works

How it works

Every engagement is scoped to what you need, on its own or combined with other services into one program. Share your project and where it stands today. A line or two is plenty.

  2. Initial consultation

If there's a fit, we talk through your goals, constraints, timing and budget, candidly.

  3. Tailored proposal

  4. Dedicated partnership

A project manager and our network of strategic partners carry the work forward with you.

FAQ

Questions, answered plainly

Which deadline applies to us?

It depends on population and entity type. The rule sets April 26, 2027 for a population of 50,000 or more, and April 26, 2028 for a population under 50,000 and for all special district governments. Source: ada.gov, as of October 30, 2026. Check ada.gov for the latest, and ask your attorney what applies to you.

Does hiring a vendor transfer our responsibility?

No. Responsibility stays with your entity, even when a vendor builds the site. We build to WCAG 2.1 AA and test with automated and manual checks. We don't promise legal compliance, and nothing on this page is legal advice.

What about the PDFs and pages we already have posted?

The rule has exceptions for archived content and for some documents posted before your deadline, and it covers what you post afterward. Read the exceptions on ada.gov and ask your attorney. We'll scope any work on existing documents in the proposal.

We are a private or charter school. Does this apply to us?

Whether the ADA Title II rule applies depends on your school's legal status, so ask your attorney. We build every site to WCAG 2.1 AA either way.

Do you replace our parent app or alert system?

No. We build and maintain your website. We do not replace mass-notification or parent-communication apps. Your site can sit alongside them or link out to them.

What does it cost?

Every website is scoped to what you need, so we give you a proposal after we have reviewed your request. We'll be candid about budget and fit from the first conversation.

How long will it take?

It depends on the size and content of the site. Your proposal will include a realistic schedule, and we only promise what we can deliver.

What happens after I submit?

Every submission is reviewed personally, and we'll be in touch about next steps.
